Demolition and excavation begins at Dormy House… It’s a busy week at Dormy House, as Phil Wynn, Managing Director of Zenith Limited and the man in charge of the multi-million pound refurbishment and transformation of the popular country house hotel, gets to work. The project had a dramatic start, with deep snow on the hills and the lowest March temperatures on record.

Phil’s team are working closely with an archaeologist keeping watch over the 17th century site during excavations. When asked if he had ever found anything exciting during the demolition stage, Phil remarks that whilst working on a hotel basement in Manchester they found a cupboard covered in cobwebs. On breaking open the lock, and shining a torch inside, his team found a skeleton complete with a rusty old necklace engraved with ‘1829 – Hide and Seek Champion’.

However this week thankfully, with no weather delays or spooky surprises, progress with stripping out the old, before preparing the new, has begun. The conference area has gone through a rigorous demolition so the foundations can be dug for our sparkling new spa facility. More soon…
