Perfectly formed and packed with fun…
Chipping Campden is a lovely old Cotswold wool trading town. Its long, curving main street, lined with boutique shops, hotels and English pubs, has a reputation as the “perfect” example of an English High Street.
Campden has strong links with the Arts & Crafts Movement – it was the home of the Guild of Handicraft and a number of important craft shops are still in the town today. Trace the history at the Court Barn Museum: www.courtbarn.org.uk
Every year, Chipping Campden stages Robert Dover’s Olimpicks: a boisterous rural event that was first held in 1612 and takes place in early summer. Attractions include Champion of the Hill, a traditional Tug o’ War and the famous Shin Kicking, a two-man contest that has to be seen to be believed: www.olimpickgames.com
Other Chipping Campden pursuits include Music and Literature Festivals – www.campdenmusicfestival.co.uk and www.campdenlitfest.co.uk – which take place each spring. Or look out for the Creative Cows Comedy Club, with a year-round calendar of events http://www.creative-cows.com.
