The Cotswolds

Perched high on the top of the Cotswolds, Dormy House is perfectly positioned for exploring rural England at its very best. The only problem is that once you have arrived at our lovely luxury Hotel and Spa, you’ll find it very difficult to leave.

For everyone: While there’s enough to keep you busy around the clock, it’s the Cotswolds themselves that really steal the show. The countryside is a bucolic patchwork of rolling fields and ancient woodland that’s embarrassingly easy on the eye. The villages are a jumble of honey-coloured cottages dozing beneath thick thatched roofs, while needle-thin church spires keep watch. And if you think our prose is getting a little flowery… just come and see for yourself!

For active people: The Cotswolds are a playground for outdoor types and provide the perfect backdrop to get your heart beating a little faster. Besides circular walks and mountain biking there’s a manicured 18-hole golf course next door, and we can arrange a variety of country pursuits including horse riding, shooting and fishing. If all that sounds like hard work, why not hire a classic car and we’ll supply the famous Dormy Picnic Hamper!

For culture vultures: Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of The Bard and home to The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Once you’ve brushed-up on Shakespeare’s life you can take-in a lunchtime tragedy or a suppertime satire. If you are hungry for more, nearby Oxford is packed with world-class museums and enough ancient university colleges to satisfy the greediest of cultural appetites.

For retail therapy: A stone’s throw away, the Regency town of Cheltenham Spa is crammed with boutiques and antique shops, making it the ideal place to spend your winnings after a day at the races.

For history buffs: The past is written large across the Cotswolds, from megalithic stone circles to timelessly-preserved Roman villas. In fact, thanks to a moment of whimsy from England’s greatest landscape architect (the aptly nicknamed ‘Capabilty’ Brown) we’ve got an unusual historical folly right on our doorstep in the shape of Broadway Tower.
