A day out in Stratford?…The birthplace of William Shakespeare is only 25 minutes’ drive from Dormy House.
Stratford is immensely proud of its famous son and no visit is complete without a visit to his Birthplace and the lively Museum next door.
Perhaps more importantly, Shakespeare is still the source of all that’s cultural in modern Stratford-upon-Avon. The magnificent Royal Shakespeare Theatre has been refurbished to give visitors greater access throughout the day – and the chance to see a Shakespeare play almost every night of the week.
But Stratford is not a one-bard town. There are lots of other reasons to visit, from the beautifully-preserved Tudor buildings and shops, to the pleasures of the River Avon, which meets the Stratford Canal in the middle of Bancroft Gardens opposite the theatre. Stroll along the banks, hire a day boat or row among the Queen’s swans – and wonder what Shakespeare would make of all the fuss.
